This is my record of golf played as Captain at South Beds.
153 13/11 Final game of the Captaincy, with Alan, Andy and Clark. Very pleased with 38 points, 19 on each side. A couple of slip ups but hard to be disappointed with 9 pars. Nowhere near good enough to win though, Mark shot gross 68 to finish with 43 points, including 6 birdies. Over and Out.
152 10/11 Cold and Sunny – a lovely November day. Stableford comp from yellow tees. Started badly but scraped 17 on 10-18 followed by 20 on 1-9 despite a wipeout on 7 from a good position. 37 enough for £8 in Sunday school – not a bad finish to the Captaincy year.
151 8/11 WET WET WET – waited around for the downpour to stop and then played 10-14 with Pat and Jose until it started again. Course amazingly playable despite the downpour.
150 7/11 Staff v Committee/Council. Played steadily enough with Christine v Michael and Richard but got soundly beaten 6and5, with Richard and Michael playing far too solidly and well under par. Staff won 4-2.
149 6/11 First stableford of the winter from yellow tees with Mick and Andy. 35 points OK, but plenty left out there.
148 3/11 Fourball comp with Andy v Terry and Marc. We had a great back 9 with 23 points including a birdie for Andy on 2 and me on 4. Very windy and tough from the whites (should have been yellows, but ho hum). £11 to come from Sunday school too 🙂
147 2/11 Final club match against Aspley Guise finished 3-3. Martin and I played well and beat Duncan and Fred 6and4 in a very friendly match. Particularly impressed with our par 3 performance, playing all 5 par 3s 1 under par thanks to a birdie each.
146 1/11 Started slowly but 21 points on back 9 got me up to 36. With Mark, Terry and Phil we managed to win some money too, with 69 on back 9 beating all comers handsomely.
145 30/10 Lovely day with Steve at Harewood Downs, probably last courtesy round as Captain. Hilly course with some tricky holes and a couple of long ones too. 31 points not to bad in the wind.
145 27/10 Windy Sunday – struggled with the par 5s but scraped 28 points with PaulN to beat Pat and Ken. Course in great condition after the overnight rain.
144 25/10 Blustery Friday after a wet night. Course played very well although greens a bit slow. JC’s excellent 41 points a pleasure to watch. Clark, Terry and I played our part in winning a nine – my 32 points including 0 on 4 and 5 should have been much better.
143 23/10 A day out at Mowsbury, first trip for me although it had been very wet overnight and greens were very slow. Couldn’t score well, but played ok in the wind and happy to come away with some winnings, mainly due to Clark and Alan.
142 20/10 Wet and windy start but sun came out later. Paul and Mick too strong for me and JC despite my 22 points on back 9. Should have been better than 35 points but JC and I made rather a hash of 13 and 18.
141 19/10 Captain and Ladies’ Captain v Christine and Stuart who both played very well and at one stage were running away with things. However we rallied and just scraped a drawn match on the 9th, phew!
140 18/10 A week off and it showed. 31 points wasn’t bad, but struggled to play simple iron shots. ’twas the par 5s that did it – 7s on all of them 🙁 Despite that Scott, DaveF Clark and I nearly won a 9 but nearly isn’t good enough!
139 12/10 Last home match v Beds and County. Gary and I didn’t play that well, but just about held it together until the last 3 holes, finally losing 2and1. Match drawn 3-3.
138 11/10 Autumn is here with rain showers in a cold Northerly wind. Pleased with my 33 points in tough conditions, just sufficient for me, Phil, Scott and Jose to win one 9.
137 9/10 Invitation day at John O’Gaunt courtesy of Francois. Hospitality was wonderful and we won with 41 points on countback. I’m glad to say I played my part with a few pars with shots and we dovetailed well. Thanks to David and ex hatter Brian Gill for a good game. Looking forward to wearing my prize – AQL shoes just in time for winter.
136 6/10 Capt/Pro v Marc and Steve which we won 2and1. Micky very steady as always and for once I came in a few times with some handy pars with shots including 13, 1 and 4, 5 and 8 with a monster par putt. Played 1-9 5 over par – very pleasing.
135 4/10 Captain’s match v Kitty and James ended in an honourable draw. Played well, and needed to, apart from par 5s into a stiff wind. Fun match format we should have started earlier in the year.
134 2/10 Friendly match with Andy who won by two finishing birdie/par/birdie despite me playing the back nine 4 over par. Thanks to the 4balls who let us through.
133 30/9 Last Monday night school of the year. Hit driver well, but didn’t do much else right – par on 9 after weak birdie putt missed. Meanwhile JC and Sean had 3 birdies each..
132 29/9 1st medal for a while and I was deserted by my putting touch. Net 72 could have been so much better if I hadn’t 4 putted 12 and 3 putted 3,16 and 17. Ho hum – 7 wood to 2 feet for birdie on 6 was handy tho’. Mick and John great company on a slow sunny day on a packed course.
131 28/9 Match at John O’Gaunt. Luke and I beat Francois and Nick 3and2, mainly due to Luke’s superb golf although I played my part a few times. Match drawn 3-3.
130 27/9 Second visit to Abridge with Pat, John, Andy, Alan, Jose, Dave & Clark. Played better than last time, but still only 28 points. Lovely course in great condition.
129 23/9 Away Match at Royston. Andy and I beat Capt Keith and Will 5and3. Andy had a great day, Keith holed for a birdie on 7 from a bunker, and I birdied 10 although Andy had already won it with a par. Will had a poor day, Match drawn 3-3 so SB wins aggregate match over both legs, 6½-5½. Need to find the cup!
128 21/9 Club v President’s team. Club won 3½-2½ and Martin and I beat David and Barry 5and3. Very pleased with my game, putted particularly well – Par on 1,3,4,5,7,9,12,14 and 15.
127 20/9 Friday golf with Phil and George. George breezed to 38 points whilst I struggled to score on any hole in which I visited a bunker. Unfortunately there were several of those. Onwards and upwards.
126 19/9 First Capt/Ladies’ Capt match v Mike and Val, lost 3and2 after a good start and being 4 up after 7. Tailed off as Mike had a hot streak.
125 17/9 Beds County Exec day with Thomas from Luton Hoo v Dave (Cromwell) and Pete (Mowsbury Captain). We played Ok in the rain for 34 points, but nowhere near the 42 that won it. Lovely day out at Beds and County.
124 13/9 Friday team game to which I contributed very little. Playing with Phil and Jose, none of us managed more than 30 points. Need to stop drawing/hooking irons and all will be well.
123 12/9 Club Match v Beds Police is always fun and this was no exception. Lax and I played well beating Harmit and Pete 4and2, winning the overall match 3½-2½. Played significantly better than Monday, all is not lost!
122 9/9 Beds Captains team comp at Leighton Buzzard in the rain. Mark and I played as badly (or worse) than we ever had before. Only highlight was my birdie on 3rd. However, Mel and Paul won and Paul was ntp on 11th, so although SBeds was 7th we took home some prizes.
121 8/9 Mixed match at home v John O’Gaunt. Christine and I lost 3and2 despite winning 6 of our 7 shot holes. Penny and Francois too good for us, making a couple of excellent birdies. I chipped in for birdie on 17 but too late to matter. South Beds won the match 9-3.
120 6/9 Mixed performance today. Nothing worked on 1st 9 resulting in a very poor 9 points. 19 on the back 9 and everything worked much better. Clark’s hole in one on 12th was the highlight of the day, his first ever.
119 5/9 A couple of practice sessions this week with my changed swing hasn’t had much impact on the irons. Hit driver very well playing 9 holes with Martin in 28 degree heat, probably the last hot day of the year.
118 30/8 Another 34 points today, marred by 0 on 13 and 1s on 8&9. Swing improving and greens already better after slitting earlier in week.
117 28/8 34 points on a Wednesday isn’t a bad return although with Andy coming in with 44 and Pat 41, it’s not very competitive. The Weds/Friday handicapping system is not going down well in some quarters.
116 21/8 Beds Captain’s President’s day at Dunstable Downs. Drove and putted well – chipping wasn’t up to scratch but not unhappy with 32 points. Lovely company from Derek and Tony.
115 20/8 Visit to Abridge, Open Qualifier course in Essex, cousin Alan’s home club. A tough test that I failed to pass with a miserable 25 points. Very enjoyable and the lads kindly donated the prize money to my Charity. Pat, Phil and Andy had a very creditable 37 points, so clearly it’s tough but not impossible.
114 14/8 Reciprocal at St Neots. Played ok for a hard won 29 points. Pins in very awkward spots and course best I’ve ever seen. Pat, Andy and I managed to sneak a pick up.
113 11/8 Today was a poor putting day. Greens running very well, but my 29 points included several 3 putts. Short game usually good but deserted me today. Course packed following Les Randall yesterday.
112 9/8 Is this a turning point? Best round of golf ever, Gross 80 including a ludicrous 4 putt on the 9th for a 7 when a par was very likely. Nonetheless finished with 44 points including 10 pars. Very pleased and need to repeat it in a competition.
111 7/8 Strangest 36 points ever. 14 points 1-9 including ball in hedge on 5 and birdie on 9. 22 points 10 to 18 including birdie on 14. Saved by my putter several times. Meanwhile Andy birdied 12,13,14 to play final 9 in level par.
110 4/8 Capt/Pro Challenge v Mark and Kevin. Very enjoyable game won by Michael’s birdies on 7 and 8 to leave us 2and1.
109 31/7 Captain/Pro Tournament at JOG. Played quite well but 3 putted 18th for 2 over 73. Lovely game with Luther and John from Woburn – very enjoyable and stayed dry despite forecast.
108 28/7 Broadbent Trophy. Warm and windy, too windy for me. Not too unhappy with net 76 but could and should have been better.
107 27/7 Away match at Leighton Buzzard, lost 3-2. Played a great game against Capt Brian and Matt with Denis. Highlight was halving 3rd with birdies and chipping in for birdie outrageously on 14.
106 25/7 Capt pro v Bob and John McP. We won one, 4and2 mainly due to Michael’s ability to get birdies seemingly at will.
105 24/7 Visit to Lindrick with the lads on a Captain and Vice-Captain offer. Lovely course that I struggled (failed) to match, in part due to a dodgy elbow, but I don’t think that’s all the story. Ice pack time.
104 21/7 Mixed Match at Letchworth. Angela stood in for Christine and played excellently to help us beat their captains 4and3. However, SB lost the match 8-4. Our gross 84 would have scored us 41 points, we were very pleased!
103 20/7 Match v Dunstable at home, playing with Mike Bird. We lost 2and1 but South Beds won the match 3½-1½ to maintain my winning run as captain. Very tight game with Brian and Kevin could have gone either way.
102 19/7 Strange game for a friday. 31 points with 5 0s wasn’t bad, highlight being a birdie on 7. No mon½ey for me again 🙁
101 17/7 Team game with Pat and Scott. Played ok for 33pts despite messing up all the par 3s. Couldn’t compete with 42 point Andy tho’.
100 15/7 Matchplay with Pat v Phil and Alan. Match tied and close all the way round. Excellent way to play my 100th game as Captain in very hot and dry conditions.
99 14/7 Evening golf with Terry avoiding the heat of the day. Very pleased with 35 points. Had the course to ourselves.
98 12/7 1st game with my laser corrected vision, and newly regrouped putter. 9 holes with Terry following the practice rounds for the SE counties 6 a side. Pleased with birdie on 9.
97 7/7 Murray wins Wimbledon and South Beds beat Aspley Guise 7-5. Christine and I won 7&6 although Duncan was suffering from a bad shoulder. We saw the end of Murray match by finishing after 14th. The best round we’ve played together so far.
96 5/7 EAGLE on 13. Still can’t believe I holed my second shot on 13 to walk off with 2 for 5 points! Very pleased with that, but had a nightmare on 14,15 and 16. Alan and I finished with 36 points in invitation day but should have been much better. Did I mention the Eagle? Richard meanwhile had a superb gross 77 and he and Martin finished with 40 points.
95 1/7 Monday night school, the first in a while. Started badly but scraped 14 points, highlight being a par on 8th. It’s a great format and good fun playing 9 holes focussing on pars and birdies.
94 29/6 Whilst Paul Kirkwood and Mick Hagen were winning gross and net club championships I was at Luton Hoo for LIGS Captains day. Thrilled with 38 points despite 3 putting the last 3 holes. Thanks Michael Blake and LIGS.
93 28/6 Putted well for 22 points 1-9 but messed up par 5s 14 and 18 and finished with 36 points. Good but promised so much more. Not bad for a damp muggy day.
92 27/6 Vets Invitation day with Ronnie B, David and Ian from Whipsnade Park. Very pleased with my 35 points despite failing to get out of greenside bunker on 6 and blowing up on 9 attempting to secure a par.
91 26/6 Good game with Pat, Paul and Alan. A few stray shots ruined a good score although still pleased with 33 points and birdie on 14. Driving definitely improving slowly.
90 25/6 Ladies’ Captain’s day. Men played from the Red tees, which is not as simple as it sounds. Very pleased with my 37 points – course in great shape and swing just about working despite back being stiff after Captain’s weekend.
89 21/6 Didn’t use driver today either but not so effective. 26 points was very poor after a good game yesterday. Time to focus on Captain’s weekend.
88 20/6 Beds captains v Gloucestershire captains at The Ross on Wye. Lovely course with lots of trees. Great match with Dave T v Ian and John whom we beat 3&1. Didn’t use the driver and scored 38 points. I’ll have to try that again!
87 18/6 Seven games in as many days and I’m broken. Phill played superbly and me poorly in a match that he won convincingly. Far too few good shots today. Time for a day off.
86 17/6 Close Captain/pro match with Martin and Mick M. Level on18th tee we lost by one to a super birdie putt by Mick from just off the 18th green. Martin wore the same shoes as US Open champion Justin Rose.
85 16/6 Sunday with Brian Wall, v Steve W and Mick F. Apart from a couple of wayward shots resulting in lost balls, played well for my 31 pts. Missed putt on last and tied a close game. Iron play improving 🙂
84 15/6 Battersea cup in a stiff wind. Started steadily but lost the plot in the middle and failed to recover. Felt I’d played better than my 83 and generally struck the ball well. There’s always next time.
83 14/6 A bit on 17th was all I had to show for today. Struggled to hit the driver well, but otherwise my game is improving although you wouldn’t know by looking at the scores.
82 13/6 Francois, capt at John O’Gaunt invited me and Clive (Bedfordshire) to play with him and PGA pro Roger Hyder. Lovely day and great banter. Tied match, and hopefully we’ll have rematch at Bedfordshire and here.
81 12/6 Club charity day in fierce wind. Lovely game with Keith, Martin and Alex whose 40 points despite the condition gave our team score a vestige of credibility despite my 28 points.
80 9/6 32 points enough to win £2 in Sunday school and give shots off in coming weeks. Tied game with Paul N, Bernie and Bobby was great fun and fair result. Holed some putts and swing improvements starting to work.
79 8/6 Match away at Mid-Herts. Bill and I lost an enjoyable game 5&3 to vice-capt Phil and Keith. Match tied 3-3. Phil and I both alumni of Hall Green Junior School, many years ago!
78 6/6 Shoosmith trophy, men v ladies. My misfortune to play the ladies’ captain on sparkling form. It was (almost) a pleasure to beaten when Christine was playing so well! Match tied 3-3
77 5/6 Reciprocal outing to Millbrook. Pleased with 31 pts on unfamiliar course. Course in good condition in advance of County Championship at weekend.
76 4/6 Friendly match play with Brian Scott. Didn’t mind losing 2&1 in the sunshine. Pleased with birdie on 9. Rough is growing fast and swallowing wayward golf balls 🙁
75 2/6 Professional trophy qualifier medal. Pleased with my ball striking but couldn’t get enough pars and ruined it all by failing to get out of greenside bunker on 6 and making a 9 finishing with 78. Meanwhile, Bobby was having a nightmare and Pat lost 3 balls !!
74 27/5/13 Sunny and windy bank holiday mixed greensomes. Carole and I won with 35 pts playing very well against Pat and Lindsey who were not on their usual form. A win, !
73 24/5/13 WET AND WINDY. Managed to be level 2s for seven holes but 8 and 9 were too much in the wind and rain. Gave up to watch PGA on TV after 9!
72 22/5/13 32 highlight being par, birdie par on 13,14,15. Wonder shot attempt on 8 failed. Must learn to take medicine when in trouble 🙂
71 17/5/13 33 points with Scott, Phil and Andy. Not enough to win anything, despite
each of us having a birdie. Not consistent though driving much better.
70 15/5/13 My net 77 in midweek medal matched my partner Luke’s gross 77! He always struck the ball sweetly. I did occasionally, but not often enough. Another .1 added to handicap, now 16.6 🙁
69 12/5/13 Capt/Pro Challenge v Martin Shadlow and Jim Sweeney who were
more on their game than me and Michael. They win 5&4 finishing 4 up.
68 10/5/13 First visit to Woodhall Spa Hodgkin course. The heather, bunkers and narrow fairways took their toll on my score, although we all hit some super shots on this lovely course. Thanks Andy, Pat and Terry for a great day out. My pars and a birdie on 15th more than made up for the difficulties encountered extricating myself from the bunkers.
67 8/5/13 My first match in the Bedfordshire Captains society, v Bucks. Played with Steve H from Beds and County and beat Colin and Jonathan 3 and 2 finishing 4 up. My highlight was birdie with provisional ball on short 15th having topped first into the undergrowth! A few good putts on the tricky Ellesborough greens. Lovely undulating course.
66 6/5/13 Bank holiday Greensomes with Kitty. Delightful game, we played well for our 35 points but just missed out on a prize. Beating Kat and Danny even by a point is always a pleasure.
65 5/5/13 Mixed match away at Bedfordshire. VC Joe and Ladies Captain Margaret too strong for me and Christine, although we played ok. We went down 5 and 4 and the team lost 6-4. Well done Bedfordshire.
64 4/5/13 Home match against Letchworth won 4-2. Jim McM and I won 4 and 3 after being 2 down early on. Drive on 5th to 10ft with a shot helped. Bright, showery, windy – Bah!
63 1/5/13 Bright sun on Mayday, birdie on 14th and all is well on the course. 33 points satisfactory but hardly startling. Need to eliminate silly errors!
62 29/4/13 6th game in as many days. Home match against Royston. Great game we managed to halve by sinking a long putt on 18th to win the game. Great fun with Keith, David and Martin. Looking forward to the return. Club won 4½ 3½
61 28/4/13 30 points including a birdie on 3 wasn’t enough to beat Bernie or Steve this morning, but struck the ball well most of the time in the cold wind.
60 27/4/13 First Club Match. Phil and I halved our match after being 4 up with 6 to play! Club beat Bedfordshire 4-3
59 26/4/13 Engulfed by hail storm on 4th and a few errors but birdie on 11th helped me to 33 points.
58 25/4/13 1st Capt pro match v Scott and Phil ended with us 2 down. Needed to play better on my shot holes, but handy relaxing tips from Michael.
57 24/4/13 33 points on a pleasant Wednesday morning in the sun. A few temp greens in play whilst Tom and team work on the main greens. Lovely morning.
56 20/4/13 Lovely sunny day and light winds should be ideal conditions to get the handicap down. Haha. Lovely game with new members Tom and Barry, but my 79 will put me back to 17. It wasn’t going to happen for any of us today. Boo.
54&55 19/4/13 36 holes at Ashridge was a lot of fun. Unfortunately my wooden spoon winning performance was woefully far from any prize money but great fun and thanks to Ashridge for the courtesy.
53 17/4/13 Tied with Martin on 32 points. Windy yet sunny and fast greens very testing.
52 15/4/13 Monday night school is all about chasing pars and birdies. My chase ended in disaster a couple of times leaving me with 12 points for 9 holes and only contributing to the pot.
51 14/4/13 President’s putter qualifier in stiff wind with fast greens a bit too much today. 72 for me and Andy not bad, but rather eclipsed by Mark and Paul’s 62!!
50 12/4/13 It’s the Masters in Augusta and South Beds greens are getting fast and tricky. My 30 points eclipsed by Pat’s 39. Not bad with the wind, oob on 8 and several 3 putts.
49 8/4/13 Bah, cold wind is back. 32 points for me with highlight of the game Andy’s brother Bob being stuck in a bush on 8, taking a penalty drop and chipping in from 100+ yards for a birdie. Pity he didn’t see it go in!
48 7/4/13 Hurrah, the sun is finally warming us up. My 37 points not enough to beat Kevin (39) and Steve(38). Steve’s 4 birdies and Kevin’s eagle on 7 didn’t help.
47 5/4/13 Fed up with this cold and windy weather! Brutal conditions and 30 hard won points. Junior medal won with net 66, so it must be me. Well done Luke.
46 3/4/13 Cold and windy but played well to reach 37 points and take home some cash. Sank some good putts today following up some long ones on Monday.
45 1/4/13 First mixed match of the year. Frank Press foursomes. Very cold, snow lying on course and Christine and I managed a creditable 32 points. Pleased to be playing with winners, Katriona and Danny Close. Worthy winners in tough conditions with 37 points.
44 31/3/13 still a bit of snow on course and in bunkers but course very playable. 38 points this morning, very pleased to have played so steadily despite the cold wind.
43 22/3/13 Today was our annual visit to Ashridge, but a blizzard closed the course. Fortunately South Beds is lower and free from snow. Very pleased with birdie on 9th for 35 points. Very cold with snow flurries – greens fast and true.
42 20th March and only 3C! What is this weather about. Course superb after the soaking at the weekend. 34 points quite pleasing too.
41 17/3/13 Pouring with rain on St Patrick’s day for LIGS but course just about remained playable. My 31 points enough to win guest prize. Was I the only guest??
40 16/3/13 First match of the year best remembered by Sam playing very well in poor weather for 36 points off 2 and my poor 22 points. White tees and wind – Juniors beat the Ladies and Men with ease in average Stableford comp.
39 13/3/13 Snowy and Blustery 27 points put into perspective by Phil(42), Scott(39), Pat(38).
38 10/3/13 Butt Foursomes qualifier in terrible wind and snow flurries. Andy and I were pleased with our 80 in the conditions.
37 8/3/13 Wet and misty unpleasant conditions. Pleased with 34 points and a great team score nullified by Phil and Scott giving up after 9. Mark R excelled with 3 under par.
36 6/3/13 Bad day on the course. Was persuaded to play comp in a fourball and subsequently DQ’d. What an idiot. Missed simple putts for 32 points too. Thx, Andy, Paul and Clarke.
35 3/3/13 44 points in betterball with Andy beating Terry and Marc’s 41 and winning £19 in Sunday School. Played well together and might be in contention for overall comp.
34 1/3/13 Treated the car to a wash with today’s winnings. Only 30 for me, but 36 for Mark R, 38 (Pat) and 40 (Paul D) secured the majority of the cash. Still a cold wind but signs of spring.
33 27/2/13 Tied on 34 pts with Andy and even won a couple of pounds. Greens very smooth and fast. Agronomist visiting today, he was impressed by course but not my golf.
32 24/2/13 Another cold Sunday, and I couldn’t do anything right for 7 holes. 4 points fro 7 and 22 for remaining 11. Weirdly frustrating on frozen temp greens. Paul N and Steve W took JC and my money with ease.
31 22/2/13 Very cold and played very steadily with Steve, Andy and Marc to take the money. Missed simple(ish) putt for birdie on 9th, but pleased with 35 points.
30 21/2/13 Lovely day at New Zealand GC with Law Society GS. Thanks Richard. Foursomes with Martin always a pleasure and superb lunch.
29 20/2/13 – 5 shots was too many to give to Keith Lee who played much better than me and knocked me out of 2nd div knockout 2and1.
28 15/2/13 – Snow covered the course from Sunday night but Friday is bright and sunny and course plays superbly, unlike me! 28 points with the early Friday players as off to London later.
27 10/2/13 – Cold and wet and a comp card in hand leads to bad start on both 9s. Scrambled 32 points but still up to 16.3 despite taking money from Ron and Don.
26 8/2/13 – Cold but sunny and a few temp greens due to light overnight snow. Pleased with 33 points.
25 3/2/13 – Freezing Sunday morning didn’t suit today. 27 points in a bitter wind. Irons not much better either. Need some warmer weather to do a bit of practice.
24 1/2/13 – 34 points in team game with Don, John and Dave F. No enough to win but pleased despite not being able to hit a decent iron shot.
23 30/1/13 – the course has been under snow for the last 2 weeks but has now emerged in brilliant condition. Many local courses are still closed. Very pleased with 33 points in very windy conditions.
22 13/1/13 – Frozen course, frosty greens, chilled hands. Perfect day for a yellow ball comp. Marc, Terry, Martin and I amassed 157 points, enough to win Sunday school.
21 11/1/13 – 36 points on cold and damp day. Highlight was chipping in from bank on right of 15th for
20 9/1/13 – Stableford from Yellow tees. Good apart from nightmare 0 on 12 and 15. 34 points so still 16.2, phew!
19 6/1/13 – Course packed on foggy day. 31 (13+18) points with Don (31) and Jose (35).
18 4/1/13 – Lovely day, hit the ball well, 37 points but not enough to win money. Needed 39 for that!
17 2/1/13 – First game of the year. Skins with Pat and Jose over 14 holes to avoid the rain. Dry enough for the greens to be cut and rolled and course in excellent condition for time of year.
16 30/12/12 – 37 points wins me £11 in a huge final Sunday school of the year. Par on 1,3,4 & 5 and birdie on 7 an excellent start. Let’s hope this form continues into 2013.
15 28/12/12 – Team game with Pat(39), John(35) and Bill(41). Highlight in my 32 was birdie on 3rd.
14 23/12/12 – Four-ball comp with Andy. 37 points no where near good enough to beat Terry and Marc’s 44 despite me chipping in on 14 and 4. Lovely bright windy day.
13 21/12/12 – Team of 3 with Pat and Dave Field. Not good enough to win today.
12 19/12/12 – 35 points, course in great condition for time of year.
11 16/12/12 – Texas scramble with Marc, Terry and Andy. Missed putts on 8 and 9 cost us. Finished with 55.2, 8 birdies but should have had more. Lovely sunny day for winter golf.
10 9/12/12 – If only I could get out of the Captain’s Charity bunker! 33 points wasn’t bad in a bitter wind with Ron and John, playing early before the President’s lunch.
9 7/12/12 – Birdie on 4th helped rescue an otherwise poor performance with Pat and Andy. Course in good shape despite being under snow for 2 days.
8 2/12/12 – Very cold and frosty, greens frozen early on. Sunk putt for par on 9th to half match.
7 30/11/12 – Friday team with Marc, Clark and Dave Field. My 37 points included a chipped in Birdie on 8. Always a pleasure to take money from Pat.
6 28/11/12 – Midweek matchplay fun with Clark, just triumphing over Pat and Kleber on 17th.
5 25/11/12 – Texas Scramble. Wonderful performance by Terry, Marc and Kevin. 55.95 could be enough to win overall.
4 23/11/12 – Friday team game. John and Scott saved my blushes. Lovely sunny day.
3 18/11/12 – Captain’s Drive in. 9 Hole Greensomes with Christine Boyd, 2013 Ladies Captain.
2 17/11/12 – Night Golf. 9 holes of golf with translucent balls and glow sticks on the Warden course.
1 16/11/12 – Friday team game @SBGC. 26 points, an inauspicious start to the year.
